LSA has released its 2012 Annual Report
"Last November I had an opportunity to attend LSA’s Statewide Conference in Montgomery, Alabama. A highlight of the conference was the Thursday night banquet. I was privileged to help judge the submissions for Office of the Year. It was an extremely difficult task to select just one winner because all of the offices do so much to help low income citizens with domestic violence issues, food stamps, Medicaid, bankruptcy, foreclosure, evictions, garnishments, FEMA disputes, debt settlements and other civil legal matters. In addition to providing for the legal needs of our clients, LSA works with various social services programs and churches that provide for the social needs of our clients.
Future and continuing funding is obviously a challenge that LSA faces. Over the last few years, LSA’s funding has been drastically cut due to cuts to the Legal Services Corporation by Congress. In spite of the cuts to LSA, our staff continues to seek grants and donations and find creative ways to provide legal services to our clients.
In the coming years, LSA will face even more challenges but we will strategically plan to meet these challenges. We will continue to be a visible and viable provider of legal services to the low income citizens of Alabama."
