The Legal Services Alabama Board of Directors and staff are pleased to announce that Legal Services Alabama (LSA) has been awarded funding through the National Mortgage Settlement Funding Program from Attorney General Luther Strange. The award totaling $1,119,730 over the next two years came at a critical time to enable LSA to increase its help to Alabama families fighting to save their homes in times of financial crisis. LSA is grateful for this award and eager to continue our foreclosure prevention work for so many who depend on us throughout the state and to provide a broader range of representation. Working together, we will continue to provide hope and help to those who need it the most.
Legal Services Alabama is a non-profit statewide law firm dedicated to providing free civil legal assistance for Alabamians who cannot afford a lawyer. As the organization that provides legal assistance for Alabamians in times of the greatest need for over 30 years1, LSA bears an enormous responsibility to clients in all 67 counties in Alabama. The help provided by LSA is often the critical factor that enables a family to keep their home, maintain their income, receive eligible benefits or stay safe from domestic violence.
Due to substantial federal and a large in-state funding cut, LSA is confronted with the responsibility to provide services to those most in need in the state with limited funding and staff. The need for private donations is crucial to continue to provide free civil legal assistance to those who otherwise would not be able to afford legal representation.
The Attorney General’s award to Legal Services Alabama will allow us to help over 4,000 Alabama families keep their homes through a holistic approach to service.
