It is estimated that 940,872 people live in poverty in Alabama. One in four low-income families will require legal assistance during any given year. This means 235,218 Alabama citizens will need legal help. LSA has approximately one attorney for every 5,000 persons that qualify for and need civil legal assistance in Alabama. It is obvious that LSA with its current staff and resources, cannot adequately serve the low-income citizens of our state using its staff alone.

Legal Services Alabama uses volunteers to assist our local offices and to help with under-served communities. By becoming involved with our organization, volunteers gain valuable legal experience and first-hand knowledge of how the public interest legal sector operates. Most importantly, volunteers provide an invaluable service to low-income communities.
