If You’re Looking to Simplify Your Life, Start Now and Give More

Henry David Thoreau once said, “Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb-nail.”

It’s National Simplify Your Life Week and it’s the perfect time to look at ways to aim for simplicity while giving even more to the organizations you want to support.

Clear out the clutter. If you’re a certified packrat, maybe it’s time to take a look at what you’ve been keeping. Clear out the back corner of those closets and donate those once necessary items to a charity. Your unwanted items will get a second life and you’ll clear your mind as a result.

Focus. Some people want to help as much as they can and all of the sudden they’re juggling requests for help from several nonprofit organizations. If you’re feeling the pressure, stop. Take a serious look at what matters most to you. All organizations will benefit more if their volunteers are giving 100%.

Two for one. When giving to an organization, think of how you can multiply the experience. For instance, volunteer with your family. You’ll be giving to a good cause and getting quality family time. Volunteering for a charity walk also gives you exercise as you give. If you like the arts become an usher so you can enjoy the show while helping the venue.
