Our Board

Legal Services Alabama's (LSA) Board composition is regulated by 45 CFR §1607. Our governing body must reasonably reflect the interests of eligible clients and be made up of members who are supportive of the purposes of the Legal Services Corporation Act. They must have an interest in, and knowledge of, the delivery of quality legal services to the poor. At least 60% of the Board must be attorney members. A majority of the Board must be appointed by the governing body of one or more state, county or municipal bar associations. The Alabama State Bar appoints the majority of LSA’s attorney members. Additional attorney members may be selected by other organizations designated by LSA. LSA has one Board member appointed by the Alabama Lawyers Association which is the African-American Bar Association of Alabama. At least one-third of the Board must be client members. These individuals must be eligible to be LSA clients and are appointed by a variety of groups designated by LSA.
